Community Development
Only 43% of women from rural Cuddalore have completed class 10. Over 60% of women do not participate in the workforce.
Hence, women from rural Cuddalore face multiple barriers to access opportunities for realising their dreams.
In order to bridge this, we work with skilling and livelihoods through Sura, our social enterprise.
Sura - Livelihood Program
Sura is a social enterprise, operating in rural Cuddalore. We are an all women team, with an aspiration to enable purposeful, dignified, and sustainable livelihoods for women in rural India. We believe this expands women's life choices. A team of 12 women from rural Cuddalore communities stitch these lifestyle products, taking home a sustainable income.
Skilling Program for Women
An outreach of Sura, the skilling program in the last 6 years has served women with no prior experience or education. They undergo a 70-day training program, complete viva voce and examination. They end the course with a graduation function - post which they are a part of the alumni community of the Seva Resource Center. We run two skilling centers across rural Cuddalore.
Skilling Program for Students
As part of our efforts to bring holistic learning opportunities to children, we are conducting skilling classes to children from secondary school. Learning skills such as sewing, wire weaving, embroidery shall improve their spatial thinking, gross motor skills and most importantly, creativity and eye for excellence.
