Our Context

Cuddalore is a coastal district of Tamil Nadu. Struck by multiple calamities including the Tsunami of 2004, it is known for its resilience in building back. 

The literacy rate is around 78%, but rural areas lag behind with female literacy rates particularly low. Many girls drop out of school due to socio-economic pressures, early marriage, and inadequate educational facilities. Women’s livelihood struggles are pronounced, with over 50% relying on informal, low-paying jobs, earning less than INR 5,000 per month on average. Limited access to vocational training and financial resources hampers their economic empowerment.

Hence, there is a need to empower women and children of Cuddalore for them to realise their dreams!
